So you got into university after all the hard work you put into your A levels! Big ups to you!. Going into university will be a start of a new journey in your life. It will have its ups and downs, but here are my top 10 advice for you ambitious and money saving folks out there-that will help make your university experience the best it can be!
- Enjoy yourself!! You only live once...but be responsible! You are going to have a lot of freedom. Don't relay on material things, but spend your money and time in creating good memories with friends or with yourself. for examples, having great nights out, going to concerts, traveling etc.
- Be active! In a way that you are well known among your uni mates, teachers and maybe outside uni. So take any opportunities that are up your street. From joining clubs at your uni; being active outside uni for example, going to dance classes or being involved in your local church; to volunteering to work/help your lecturers and other members of staff in your university department. This will help you in networking and possibly making long term friends.
- Do not force relationships. If the relationship is not going anyway, do not make it to! And please do not force yourself on people! Also be careful with the boys, they are so thirsty! More about friends,Check Out my girl- Willaaboo's post.
- Be yourself ! I believe that there will always be someone who is smarter, prettier/more handsome and more talented than you. So be uniquely you!
- Take care of yourself mentally and physically! if you have those days when you are depressed or stressed at uni- just remember they are some people who would die to be in uni, but couldn't make it. And remember why you are at uni. Try to enjoy your own company because everyone will be busy soon. And don't worry about others, worry about yourself !
- Aim high! Go into uni aiming for your first class from day one. It might sound impossible but start early and work hard. However for first year, enjoy yourself though.
- Try and go to every lecture! Please. If you can go into lectures with a recorder, this will help if you have a short attention spam like me. So you can listen back to lectures if maybe you slept off lol. Also try to start making your revision notes early! This will give you more time to enjoy uni life.
- Take everything from home if you can. For example, pillows, duvet , bedding, pots, cutleries e.t.c Thing that are already available at home. Helps with saving money. if not, some of the items can be thrifted.
- Try to buy what you need, not what you want. And buy as you go, instead of buy all the things from the "Things to take to uni"list because you might make friends on your halls or house where you can borrow things like iron, kettles etc or the items might have been supplied by the uni. So don't waste money!
- Buy staple food in bulk. Food such as rice, pasta, noodles, frozen food, tin food etc. Buy these when you are with your parents, they will be forced to pay. This will help you worry less about what to eat and can of in a way stop you from buying too much fast food as you are forced to finish all the food you just bought. Also you can compare prices on food across all the food stores on mySupermarket.co.uk, before you venture out to go food shopping.
