Firstly, don't be like me and not save up for uni before you go please. University is very expensive so here are some tips on how to save money and still have a great time.
- Don't fall for the " Things you need for uni" list. Some of the items can be bought later on or your hall/ house mates might have them, so you could share. Therefore buy as you go.
- Get what you need from home, if you can. such as your beddings, cutleries, pots etc.
- If you can't, you can buy your stuff from charity store. But do look around, if you can. But you will save a lot of money.
- Buy what you NEED, not what you WANT.
- Buy your staple food in bulk. Such as 5 kg of pasta or rice, tin foods etc. This will not only help you save money but help you worry less about what to eat on those days. Also buy these with your parents,as they will be obligated to pay.
- Compare prices of foods across the different supermarkets. You can easily do this online on mySupermarket.co.uk This can also inform you on what foods items are on sale.
- Try and buy things on sale. if not... Use your student discounts.
- Remember to get you student benefits that can get you discounts such as Unidays, NUS cards and a Rail card.
In conclusion, money should be spend on you, having a great time at uni. For example having great nights out, going to concerts, eating out with friends, traveling and other activities that will leave amazing memories.
