My Favorite Things of 2020

United Kingdom

Urgh, 2020 has been a husk of a Year!  Usually every year I always post a 'PRODUCT OF THE YEAR' on my Instagram page. However because it is 2020, I have decided to write this blog post about all my faves of this year, that helped me through quarantine and lifting up my spirits. So if you are looking for something to get for YOURSELF or for someone special- Here is a list of things that made me happy this year.

1. Dorcas Creates

From writing ideas and affirmations on my DorcasCreates notebooks to rocking my Ewaoluwa earrings and tote bag (to lift up my spirits). 'DorcasCreates' literally creates the best things that fit my aesthetics.

2. Fourth and raw

When I tell you that I have been looking for a nice scented shea buttercream for the longest time!! Thank GOD, that I have finally found the one, thanks to Fourth and raw shea kissed by N.A.N.A. I use this mainly on my skin and also on my hair (as a sealant). You can use my DISCOUNT CODE: JOYO25 for 25% off. 😉

3. O L O N A Apparel

Due to the new restrictions and laws to wear a face mask outdoors. I have been rocking this stylish face mask every time that I leave the house. Also, grabbed a tote bag and an artwork.

4. Bourn Beautiful Naturals UK- Body Velvet Supreme

During Lockdown, I was really neglecting my skin,  And I remember using a body butter ( back in 2017)  that made my skin absolutely soft, I was planning to reorder another one, when I won one during a BBnaturalsuk giveaway- I got the Vanilla spice, which I absolutely love!

5. Omolola Jewellery

Finally found a Cowrie necklace from Omolola Jewellery that I have been wanting to get for yearssss! This really makes me happy, whenever I wear it.

6. Heart Shards & Lip balm by Imani Shola

I had to reread for the 3rd time, during the lockdown. This was truly what I needed to read during the first lockdown. This book is filled with self-care affirmations that really helps with my anxieties.

7. Yeye Mi

Did I wear my Yeye Mi Satin-lined bonnet every day during the lockdown? Yes, yes I did.  Was I looking cute rocking the bonnet? Yes!  Not only did I wear this 24/7, but I also used it as a deep conditioning cap - on top of my plastic bag cap. This added extra heat for when I am deep conditioning my hair.

8.Halima Aden x Modanisa

When I had to go out during Lockdown for essential shopping (of course).  I rocked my Halima Shawl. I believe the colour that I have got is no longer available but there are more gorgeous colours that you can get.

9. Introduction to Ibo Language by Dr Nwanne Onyemenem

Being in quarantine allowed me to study my native language- Igbo/Ibo from scratch! This book teaches you all the basics- from the Ibo alphabets to Parts of the body, It comes with audio, so I could listen to the correct pronunciations. I also started being serious with my Igbo/Ibo language Tumblr blog.

10. The Plight of Widows- ' African Women's experience' by Dr Nwanne Onyemenem

Along with learning more about my Igbo culture, I read this book to get an insight into the sufferings that Igbo widows  experienced. The stories were very sad. Also, I learnt some cultural idioms and about Igbo spirituality.

11. Granda's Gourds by Dr Nwanne Onyemenem

I guess you can say that I really immersed myself in learning about my culture, that I read this children's book from the same author. This book is a great introduction to the Igbo culture for our little Kings and Queens.

This was the last thing that I got this year. Just in time for the 2nd lockdown😪. This book is such a fun read, thought-provoking and well-illustrated book. So many cultural references #blackgirlmagic and self-care affirmations. I am truly enjoying this book.

In conclusions, These a few of my favourite things... SO then I don't feeeel soo bad... for 2020! [If you know, you know] ðŸŽ¶ðŸŽµðŸŽ¼
