Nneka's London Concert 2015 (Personal) Review

Nneka by Joy O on Grooveshark

On the 7th April 2015 at the Village Underground, I had the chance to see Nneka in concert , in London. Just felt like I needed a break from the Uni workload

The Opening act, Afrikan Boy-"with a k not a c as we are removing the crap out of Africa"-.was brilliant! He sang one of my childhood songs whlist growing up in the UK- one day I went to Lidl

As soon as my Warri girl came out, I thought at first that she should have worn something better, but I was happy she wore baggy jeans, a jumper, a cardigan and her famous scarf around her - I am sure she was very comfortable. This showed her humility and helped her audience to listen attentive to the lyrics of her songs rather than her outfit.

Starting off with one of my favorite songs out of her new album- My Fairy Tales - Book of Jobs  with her see through guitar,I knew I was in for a good time. Others songs like Local champion, Pray for you and In me were performed at it's best . And Nneka also performed her famous Heartbeat song- which was breathe taking for me.The instrumentals and the live versions of the songs were impressive and strong as I could feel the vibrations of the beats through my body.

Her performance was very real and expressive like she was living her songs as she sang them.  For example while singing deep lyrical content, she covered her face, gestured with her hands towards the audience and even sat on the floor. I could tell she was in her territory. This made me appreciate her so much more.

Eventhough she teased us not only once but twice; Firstly by falling silent in the middle of  her song - dey do as sef she won cry;and lastly said Good night and left the stage without singing My love, My love - I swear I almost cried. Even the instrumentalist left the stage, as they waved goodnight.
But she just want for a quick simple costume change- very funny Nneka!!

In addition  I must say the instrumentalist were super cute especially the pianist and the guitarist. (FYI:the drummer and the bass guitarist would be too old for me)

In conclusion the Concert was superb and a dream come true. And the fact that it was only £20-  #studenlife- was great for me!.
Not surprised, that the concert Sold out.
 It was worth it!
Proud to be African (Nigerian).

Check out her albums.
